This book consists of a series of stories revolving around the title character, in a small village. Some of the stories have the title character as the protagonist; in others, the antagonist, and still others, a minor character. An interesting approach from a literary standpoint.

The slices of life, changes in POV, and a nice, easy literary style made this enjoyable. I kept reading because the people and the events were familiar, their struggles either mine or people I know.
At the end, however, I was only left with an idea of a woman’s life in a small seaside town, told from her and other’s viewpoints. It was interesting, but not thought-provoking. As a modern literary work, I appreciate the technique and approach.

This won the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction in 2009.
